Kollweiler lies in the North Palatinate iplands in the upper Lauterhöhen sub-area in the so-called 'Musikantenland' (Musicians' Land). The city of Kaiserslautern is located about 15 kilometers to the south-east.

Kollweiler is a small village with slightly more than 500 local inhabitants and around 250 American residents.
