    Points of interest

    Schützenbrunnen

    GOOGLE MAPS

    Short description

The Schützenbrunnen is found above the village in the Potzberg Forest (Potzbergwald), next to a small pond and spring.

The history of the fountain goes all the way back to 1894, when the small pond and spring offered a place of relaxation and rest. Before and after both World Wars festivals were celebrated here.

The fountain’s system was redesigned by Günter Zinßmeister and thus the fountain was “reopened” in 1998 and still functions to this day.

Today, the idyllic clearing invites you to linger. Wooden benches and tables provide a comfortable resting spot and as it is adjacent to hiking trails, it is easily accessible for everyone.

  • Union Church

    Points of interest

    Unionskirche

    Kirchbergstraße 9

    66887 Neunkirchen am Potzberg

    GOOGLE MAPS

    Short description

The Union Church influences not only the name, but the cityscape of Neunkirchen am Potzberg. Surrounded by the historic city wall, the church sits atop a small hill above most of the village's houses.

It’s said that a church has resided on top of this hill as early as the 13th century, thus lending it the name “Kirchberg” or Church-Hill.

There used to be separate Lutheran and Reformist communities in Neunkirchen. In 1818, these two churches joined and used the old Lutheran building for worship—since then fittingly named the “Union Church.”

Especially noteworthy about the church: inside is an organ that dates back to 1783. Today, the organ is played regularly thanks to a restoration effort in the 90’s.

The Protestant community of Neunkirchen, which includes those from Oberstaufenbach and Föckelberg, currently hold worship services in the church. Together the Neunkirchen, Mühlbach, and Gimsbach communities all form the Protestant parish of Am Potzberg.
