    Description

    Explore nature & find secrets

Are you scientiests, explorers, nature lovers or even environmental protection activists? Then give free rein to your nature-loving heart and experience new perspectives. Feel free to bring your bug eye viewers and look at many interesting things. Become as small as beetles on the lawn or enjoy the view from the treetops by laying on top of a bench in our forest class room. See what’s happening underneath the stones and whose living inside the tree trunk.

The „Explore the forest“ trail in Himmelreich (Otterbach) is about 2km (1.2 mi) long. Here you can learn, play, make music and just enjoy yourself. The trail is ideal for elementary school kids as the school curriculum is the basis for many of the colorful information plaques. Here you can explore different habitats. The center of attention is the forest‘s ecosystem. If your feet are hurting try the barefoot path. At the end you can even show off your motor skills by balancing on a “poisonous snake”.

At the heart of the „Explore the Forest“-trail is the forest classroom featuring seating, a desk and a board. So don’t forget to bring your chalk! But of course you may also just stop there for a rest and make some music on the forest xylophone. The small cabin is guarded by an owl. At the animal long jump you can find out if you are able to jump farther than the fox. You should also be able to solve our tree ring quiz after reading all the plaques. Along the way you may also meet a woodpecker.

This you should keep in mind: The 2 km (1.2mi) trail takes about 2 hours. You’ll need firm shoes and appropriate tick spray. Unfortunately, you cannot use strollers or roller blades along the path.

  • Premium hiking route - Devil's Tour

    Recreational Activities

    Starting point

    Train station in Olsbrücken

    67737 Frankelbach

    MAP · WEB

    Key data

    Distance: 14.9 km

    Duration: 4:23 h

    Ascent: 383 m

    Descent: 382 m

    Description

The slogan for the tour keeps its promise: devilish climbs and heavenly prospects. The 15 km premium trail "Teufelstour" takes its name from the Teufelstein, a former Roman quarry in Frankelbach. Geological highlights are explained on several information boards. A special feature: This path leads directly through the stone quarry of Sulzbachtal.

Supported by 1. FCK, (the local soccer club) the path was signposted using the devil’s emblem from the FCK’s stadium Betzenberg.

The mix of wild and romantic river valleys, steep climbs and a breathtaking view over the Palatine Uplands and the Palatinate Forest right up to the Donnersberg, makes the “devil’s tour” with its 15 km total length into a unique discovery tour of the Palatinate.

On narrow paths and trails which have hardly changed in the course of time we have the opportunity of passing through almost 300 million years of geological history. Passing both old and still active stone quarries, ambitious hikers can inform themselves on several geological information boards set up by the State Office for Geology and Mining.

For active recreation whilst hiking you should not forget to stop and take a break. Along the Teufelstour   you will find many beautiful places to rest and linger. The Panorama-Gasthof Emmerwiesenhof in Eulenbis , for example, is situated directly on this premium hiking trail.

In "Fossils worldwide", Hebelstraße 4 in Sulzbachtal the geological subsoil can actually be felt. This exhibition is constructed as both a sales and museum vicinity. A wide range of minerals and fossils, which partly come from the immediate vicinity of the Sulzbachtal , are on display.
